RAIN AND REDWOODS
Its not raining in this photo, but the last two days that we were in the forest it poured. It was, at times, a biblical torrential downpour. The rain only added to the primeval aura of this lovely forest so we hiked in the rain.
A rainwashed burl on a grande old dame. The forest floor was littered with redwood needles- apparently they shed needles year round .
Pat walking in Stout Grove.
Our campsite @ Humbolt Redwoods State Park.
Redwoods have a very shallow root system and you see many overturned trees along the trail. It's all part of the plan-downed trees serve as nurse logs for new forest growth and the cycle continues.
Sad to say good-bye to the forest but we are moving on to visit old friends and tour San Francisco.
