A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT
You can say two things about our drive through Montana and Idaho- It was HOT !!! and there were beautiful vistas. With the temperatures in the mid nineties we took advantage of the many rivers to cool off.
A few years ago we met a couple while hiking in Glacier National Park. They had recently moved to Missoula from Connecticut. They said they picked it because it was a progressive small town with great access to the outdoors. (Note the GREEN ROOF on this apartment in downtown Missoula)
Excellent brews @ Kettleworks Brewery
Celtic festival in the park... And lots of fun along the river.
We left Missoula and traveled along Route 12 which follows the Locsha and Clearwater rivers. This is roughly the same route Lewis and Clark took during their "tour of discovery" in 1805. We enjoyed a leisurely ride and even hiked back to a hot spring along the way.
The western edge of this drive brought us to Kamiah, ID. Where we camped on the river bank just down the road from a sacred place of the Nez Perce.
Known as the "heart of the monster" this mound is said to be the birthplace of the Nez Perce people.
