RELAXING
IN THE
ALABAMA HILLS
We didn't do a whole lot during our stay @ Boulder Creek RV Park. But we did manage some rock scrambling along Movie Road- where such TV favorites as The Lone Ranger and Roy Rogers Show were filmed.
The Alabama Hills are just outside the town of Lone Pine, CA at the foot of Mt. Whitney. It's a well known boondocking spot but we chose a full hookup w/ cable so we could catch the World Series (GO CUBS) Games.
These hills are made of 82-85 million year old biotite monzogranite which weathers into potato shaped boulders. We saw similar shapes when we visited Joshua Tree National Park a couple of years back.
It was full on autumn when we arrived. The weather in the valley was beautiful but our drive up to the Whitney Portal had to be postponed because of snow up top.
