HIKING MT. RAINER
This is our base camp along the White River. We came to Mt. Rainer to see the largest glacier in the US outside of Alaska, the Emmon's Glacier.
The White River is created from the melting of the Emmon's Glacier.
This is the "foot" of the Emmon's Glacier with the White River emerging.
The goal was to get a closer look at Mt. Rainier in all its glacial glory. We did a six mile loop that lead us past Frozen Lake, the source of the domestic water supply on the mountain.
Frozen Lake
At several points the trail was snow packed making for a slow crossing.
The trail took us to Burroughs 2 with fabulous views of the mountain and valley below.
The way down went through scree fields and meadows.
We only scratched the surface of this magnificent National Park. It will definitely warrant a return trip.
